Edmondson starts work despite freeze

Kendal Town’s new manager Steve Edmondson took advantage of Saturday’s postponed Eastwood Town game to put his squad through a tough bonding workout along the shores of Lake Windermere.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s newest manager took his squad to the indoor fitness centre at the lake's Low Wood Hotel to explain his plans and work through a programme of mobility and strength training before using the complexe's tarmac slopes to work on their stamina.

Weather permitting, Edmondson will take charge of his first match since replacing Lee Ashcroft on Tuesday when Kendal travel to FC United of Manchester after a frozen pitch denied fans a first chance to see their new locally orientated team in action.

Kendal have named Craig Dootson as club captain ahead of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division clash as they step up their search for a new reserve team boss to replace David Foster who was appointed assistant manager to Edmondson.

Kendal Chairman Haydon Munslow says Foster will continue to supervise the reserves while the club continues its new policy of looking local for talent.

Munslow said: "Existing or aspiring managers based in South Lakeland are encouraged to apply."
