Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Mossley's lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premeir League First Division North table was cut to just one point thanks to a frozen Seel Park pitch and second-placed Skelmersdale United's 3-1 win, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

While Mossley were forced to take the day off Skelmersdale saw off a patched-up Lancaster City side at a rain soaked Giant Axe. Skem took a 2-0 lead with goals from Gary Burnett in the 10th and 48th minutes.

Ben Hudson headed home City's lone goal to make the score 2-1 with 16 minutes to go but the Dolly Blues couldn't find an equaliser as Skelmersdale made it fourteen wins in fifteen games when Kenny Strickland scored late on.

Third-placed Clitheroe, however, suffered a surprise 4-2 defeat at Station View against lowly Harrogate Railway Athletic. Goals from Liam Hardy after 14 minutes and Jonathan Maloney just before the break gave Rail a two-goal half-time lead.

The visitors pulled back on level terms, courtesy of Danny Mahoney on the hour-mark and Chris Mason on 77 minutes but just when the momentum seemed to be with them, Liam Hardy bagged a brace for the hosts in the final 10 minutes to earn the spoils.

Trafford closed to within a point of Clitheroe with games in hand after Stephen Mason's 57th minute effort proved enough at struggling Wakefield.

New Mills are fifth on goal difference from Warrington Town after both won on Saturday.

The Millers had a 2-1 win at Valerie Park against lowly Prescot Cables with Chris Luby scoring both in the 20th and 40th minutes – Jonathan Bathurst replying in the 42nd minute.

Warrington saw off Bamber Bridge 3-1 at home, coming back from being an 11th minute Greg Johnstone goal behind to win, thanks to Ciaran Kilheeney after 14 minutes and a John Miles brace in the 25th and 84th minutes.

At the opposite end of the table, Ossett Albion gave fellow strugglers Goole AFC a two-goal start but finally managed to overcome them to gain all three points at Dimple Wells.

Goole opened the scoring with their first shot at goal by David Taylor after 15 minutes. They then scored again with their second shot at goal through Bill Law after 23 minutes. Albion dug deep and managed to claw their way back into contention just before the interval with a goal from Dale Kelly.

They finally pulled back on level terms after 68 minutes when Marc Thompson was brought down in the box and Joe Fox stepped up to net the resulting penalty. And it was Thompson who earned Albion all three points with the winner 10 minutes from time.

Bottom-markers Garforth Town were on the wrong end of a 6-1 home drubbing by Curzon Ashton, for whom Kristian Dennis bagged a brace.

After Garforth had taken a 27th minute lead through Brett Mbalanda, Curzon went into half-time ahead with goals from Dennis and Andy Watson. Ryan Watson made it 3-1 just after the break and then Sam Walker on 50 minutes, Dennis again on 76 and Lee Blackshaw nine minutes from time completed the rout. The defeat took Garforth's goals-against column to eighty-two from twenty games.

The remaining game saw Farsley FC suffer a 5-1 defeat at Burscough to damage their play-off hopes.

Jordan Williams gave the Linnets a 16th minute lead that Niall Cummins added to in the 34th minute. Will Jones and Cummins again made it 4-0 at the break.

Adam Priestley pulled one back immediately after the restart as Farsley threatened a comeback but Jones' second of the game nine minutes from time proved to be the only other goal of the game to make it nap for Derek Goulding's side.
