Evans hails Magic Marv

Romulus update, from Andy Mitchell.

ROMULUS boss Richard Evans hailed the performance of star striker Marvin Johnson this week after he inspired Romulus to victory in front of a host of Football League scouts.

Johnson bagged two goals and an assist in the 4-1 thumping of Coalville Town last Saturday, a victory that moved the Roms up to 15th place in the table with games in hand.

Evans said: "Marvin was fantastic, he was under the spotlight and he did really well under the circumstances.

"There were a lot of clubs here to watch him and he played two posiitons equally well. He was good up front and then moved out wide where he destroyed them.

"Everyone in the side had a good day to be honest and it was a tremendous result."

Evans also confirmed that there had been further enquiries about Johnson, but nothing concrete to report at this stage.

The in-form Roms will hope to continue their upward surge with an away double header this week.

Evans takes his side to third-placed Stamford at the weekend before taking on strugglers Quorn, who are themselves improving after a shaky start.

The Roms chief added: "We're taking things one game at a time at the moment, but after taking nine points out of the last 12 we're hoping that we've turned the corner.

"Both sides have good players and as you can see from results and how close the table is, there is little between the sides at this level.

"Stamford and Quorn might be at opposite ends of the table but I'd bet there is little to choose between the sides."

Evans will be without defender Richard Robinson for both games after his red card at Sheffield, and Wayne Dyer is still struggling with hamstring and back injuries. Gavin Day should return after a calf injury while full back Todd Evans will have a fitness test after an ankle knock.

Impressive new signings Sean Robinson and Mitchell McPike are expected to be available.
