Mystery surrounds Marv move

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell.

MYSTERY still surrounds the future of Romulus striker Marvin Johnson, despite Sky Sports rumours that the young hitman will be going on trial with Championship club Burnley.

Johnson's agent Gino Culbertson remained hopeful this week that an agreement could be reached for the 20-year-old, who is under a two-year contract at Coles Lane, to showcase his talent at Turf Moor.

However, Roms boss Richard Evans confirmed that no official approach had come from the Clarets as the Observer went to press.

Evans said: "We've had six Championship clubs at our games again this week, so things are still very much open.

"In terms of official approaches we are where we were last week, but there is clearly plenty of interest - some of these clubs have been to several matches now."

Johnson again impressed under the spotlight this week as his 20-yard strike opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw with Rainworth Miners Welfare on Monday.

It was the second draw in three days for the Roms as new signing from Sutton Coldfield Town, James Reid, bagged a late leveller at Lincoln United on Saturday.

Evans added: "They were both useful points - we're in decent form and still picking up points from hard games so we're pleased with our progress.

"Rainworth were down to ten men but that can work both ways - we've been down to ten men a lot of times and got good results and they were very resolute - credit to them, they were very hard to break down."

The Roms have just one game this week as they prepare to entertain promotion chasing Sheffield at Coles Lane (Saturday, KO 3pm).

Evans said: "We lost a very close game at their place in the FA Trophy that could have been very different if we had taken our chances, so we're expecting to get a result this time."

Ashley Jackson should return after illness while defender Rob Evans is fit to play.

Richard Evans Jnr is still injured with younger brother Todd expected to deputise. Lewis Exall will continue in goal after Nathan Vaughan secured a move to full time outfit Kidderminster Harriers. Chris Jay is ruled out with a hip injury.
