The Linnets have looked doomed for some time now before this defeat finally put them out of their misery. A Chris Almond brace in the 28th and 44th minutes saw Cables go into the break two-up.
Dale Wright added a third to make it game over just past the hour-mark, and his penalty seven minutes later made the final score 4-0 to leave Cables five points clear of second-bottom Goole AFC with a game in hand.
Colne consolidated fifth place after a 1-0 home win over Lancashire rivals Bamber Bridge, an Adam Morning goal 10 minutes into the second half all that separated the sides in the end.
Mid-table sides Kendal Town and Tadcaster Albion shared a 2-2 Parkside draw in which the Mintcakes took an early sixth minute lead through Matthew Poole. Dan Thirkill equalised half-an-hour later and three minutes later, Taddy led through Fatlum Ibrahmii before Josh Draycott salvaged a point for the Cumbrians 14 minutes from time.
