Saddened Bucks officials say the shocking news reached Silverlands early on Saturday afternoon, the 19-year-old midfielder, pictured, having died in a three car traffic accident at Armthorpe, Doncaster at around 9pm on Friday.
Police, who are appealing for witnesses to come forward, say two other passengers in the Vauxhall Corsa the player was travelling in were injured, one seriously, while the drivers were unhurt. As well as floral tributes left at the scene of the tragedy, many more have been made on social media.
Buxton vice chairman Tony Tomlinson said: “It’s really tragic news. Ethan certainly had something about him. He was a box-to-box midfielder and Tim Ryan [assistant manager] was hopeful that with a full pre-season behind him he would go on to big things.
"Ethan joined the club earlier in the season, had made a couple of first team appearances and was expected by the management to make a further impact in 2016-17.
"The heart-felt condolences of all at Buxton FC are extended to Ethan's family and friends at this time of terrible tragedy."
Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1122 of April 15, 2016.
