He has stepped up three divisions to join Colls after impressing the club during pre-season, scoring a stunning late winner against Bolton Wanderers’ B team.
Nicholls scored 15 goals in 27 appearances in the NWCFL last season.
Speaking on the signing, manager Brad Cooke said: “Luke is someone that we have monitored for the last year. I watched LR against AFC Bury last season and he really stood out.
“We kept tabs on him through the then-manager Warren Jones, but unfortunately he had a bad injury in January.
“He came in on trial this pre-season and he has been brilliant! He knows he has a way to go, but if his start is anything to go by he will be an asset for us.
“He can play out wide or through the middle, and adds to an already talented front line. His goal against Bolton shows the qualities that he has.”
