Stringfellow and his number two Iain Swan, pictured left and right, left the First Division North club on Wednesday after saying goodbye to the Mintcakes squad at training on Tuesday night.
In a statement on their website confirming the duo's departure, officials said the club's U23 manager Gary Fawcett would take charge as caretaker for their league clash with Trafford at Parkside Road on Saturday.
Acting chairman George Gudgeon paid tribute to Swan and Stringfellow, who succeeded Dave Foster at the start of last season, after they left with the Mintcakes in 11th place.
He said: "After a long discussion with Michael and his reasons for leaving the club, Kendal Town FC have accepted his resignation with a deep sadness.
"The club would like to thank Michael and Iain for all their hard work and service they have given the club during their period in office. We would also like to wish them all the best in the future."
He added: "The club have already started work to find a suitable replacement for Michael. Gary Fawcett Our U23 manager will take the team on Saturday and all I would ask is the community supports Gary as I will be."
