In front of an excellent crowd of 1,432, Blyth could hardly have got off to a better start when Damen Mullen scored from a fifth minute penalty.
However, from then on it was nip and tuck with both teams having their chances. And then, with less than five minutes of the match remaining, Blyth virtually confirmed the points when Wilson Kneeshaw smashed home their second goal – his first for the club.
But there was still time for a nervy finale when Josh Hine pulled one back for the Ammies two minutes later with a really cool finish.
Blyth held on though, to leave the visitors seven points behind them in the table.
Barwell moved into the top five after recording a 3-1 win against fellow play-off hopefuls Stourbridge at Kirkby Road.
The Glassboys led through Sean Geddes' after 32 minutes, his shot taking a faint deflection off a Barwell defender. But Alex Tomkinson's speculative effort deceived Charlie Price in the wind to level the scores just before half-time.
The home side came on strong in the second half, and were ahead through Luke Barlone's clever lobbed finish on 52 minutes, before Brady Hickey slid in to finish Barlone's cross and seal the points 12 minutes from time.
Rushall Olympic moved above the Glassboys into eighth spot after a comfortable 3-0 win against Marine AFC at Dales Lane.
Jamie Spencer gave the Pics a 17th minute lead that Jake Heath eventually doubled seven minutes into the second period. Less than a minute later Kieran Morris added Rushall`s third to seal the points.
Skelmersdale United could only manage a 1-1 draw at the appropriately-named Stormy Corner against bottom-markers Ramsbottom United.
It was the visitors who drew first blood by going ahead after 37 minutes, courtesy of Nia Bayunu. Skem levelled five minutes after the break through Max Hazeldine but couldn`t find a winner against a plucky Rammy outfit, who are now five points adrift of the safety-mark.
