Nantwich Town manager Danny Johnson has swooped to sign former Crewe Alexandra forward and Northern Ireland international Steve Jones for next season's Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign.

Jones, 37, earned 29 international caps and also turned out for Burnley and Walsall after stepping up to play in the Football League football from Leigh RMI.

Pictured signing for Dabbers manager Johnson, Jones lives locally and arrived at Weaver Stadium from Welsh Premier outfit Airbus UK. As a result, the switch is still subject to the forward receiving international clearance.

Johnson, who has already resigned a number of key players including Mat Bailey, Harry Clayton, Peter Green, Max Harrop, Andy White and Sam Wilson, is looking forward to adding such an experienced player to his squad for the next top flight campaign.

The Dabbers manager said: "I’m thrilled that Steve is joining us. He has kept himself very fit and still has a huge amount to offer and I’m sure our fans will be as excited as I am that he is joining Nantwich Town.

"We've got some highly thought of young players and we've moved quickly to take up the option on them for another 12 months. It’s well known that I was very disappointed with how we ended the season and it’s my job to ensure we hit the ground running when the new campaign kicks off."

He added: "We have a great nucleus of players and with a few quality additions like Steve Jones, we've got every reason to look forward to next season with confidence."
