Exiles have hope of homecoming

Skem, officially relegated from the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight last weekend after the final day of the season, secured their immediate future at the end of March to share the Volair Park home of the Tigers only hours before the Football Association's March 31 deadline for clubs to prove security of tenure on grounds for the following season.

Skem's entire future in the EVO-STIK NPL had been hanging in the balance after officials and their landlords at the West Lancashire College Stadium, pictured, failed to agree a new lease or extend the current deal the 135-year-old club had before the deadline for the 2017-18 campaign.

United chairman's Paul Griffiths, who said at the time that the move would "be for one season only”, gave fresh hope to fans of the newly exiled club this week when he told The Champion newspaper that they were still “actively pursuing" all options and were investigating other areas in Skelmersdale for a new home.
