Skem, who are hosting Ossett Town on Saturday in their first fixture at Volair Park, pictured, launched a crowdfunding campaign to boost their finances on Thursday as club officials urged fans to follow them through the turnstiles at their new home until the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
Formed in 1882 and celebrating their 135th anniversary this season in exile, Skem agreed a deal last season with Cables to share their home from mid-November after failing to renew the lease on their old ground at Stormy Corner. After kicking off the campaign at the Uretek Stadium as planned, they were forced to agree an emergency groundshare with Marine at the end of October after being locked early by their landlords following a dispute over the terms of the lease.
Club officials - who are looking for financial help to fund the additional expenses they face as they work to secure a return to Skelmersdale - say even a few more spectators coming through the turnstiles and buying a programme or a cup of tea at half-time over the coming months could make all the difference to their hopes.
Skem pride themselves on being a community club and a spokesman said: “We are doing our best to make sure that Skelmersdale United FC continues to be part of your community for many more years to come, so please offer whatever you can to help.”
