Experienced defender takes South Shields leave

South Shields right-back Conor Newton is to be unavailable for selection for the foreseeable future due to personal reasons.

Newton has made 15 appearances in all competitions since the season began.

A South Shields statement read: “The 31-year-old will continue to be registered with the club with a view to being reintegrated into the squad in the future, should his circumstances change.

“Conor has the club’s full support and we greatly hope to see him wearing South Shields colours again.”

With tonight’s fixture against Marske United postponed, the Mariners are next in action away at fellow promotion-chasers Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.
