Fans urged to pitch in at new home

EVO-STIK League FC United of Manchester are calling on their fans to turn up at their new home on Wednesday to help them prepare to lay the pitch for the coming campaign.

Officials at the fan-owned club are hoping a good turnout of fans will pitch in with plastic bags or buckets from 5pm at their £5.7m Broadhurst Park stadium and make light work of clearing stones and rubble from the top soil as part of the preparatory work.

In an appeal on their website, the Premier Division club said: "We have done all we can with mechanical equipment but now it’s down to good old fashioned hard work to do the remaining trawl of the pitch.

"So we need as many of our members as possible to turn out and come to Moston to help form a line across the pitch and walk in unison from one end to the other, and to pick up as many of the remaining stones as we can. If between 50 and 100 turn up ‘we’ll have it cracked in no time’ although it will be a ‘slog’ with just five volunteers."

The statement added: "We want to see Jerome Wright and Liam Brownhill bombing down the wings without the ball bobbling out of their control because of a small bump under the turf. We want nothing to interfere with Norts and Greaves while they’re terrorising the opposition defence."
