Fans will do their bit for promotion

Spennymoor Town's officials are backing their fans to support a crowdfunding campaign to ensure they are ready for promotion.

The Moors - currently ninth and six points off the play-off spots - launched a crowdfunding campaign on Wednesday with a target of £7,750 to bring The Brewery Field up to ‘Grade C’ standard by installing 250 new covered seats in the Ramside Estates Main Stand.

In a statement launching the appeal on the ‘Crowdfunder’ fundraising platform, officials at the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club said the installation of the new seating would be followed by a series of improvements planned for their home over the coming seasons to increase capacity and improve matchday facilities for fans, players and officials.

Fans who donate - either online or in person toward the £31 cost of each seat - will be thanked on the club's website and in the matchday programme for their support. According to the club's director of matchday operations Steve Lawson, their fans won't need a public acknowledgement as an added incentive to get behind the campaign.

Lawson said: “We want to bring the ground up to a standard which would make promotion as straightforward as possible, should we achieve it this season. The club is run incredibly professionally by the chief executive and we’ve identified this as an area which needs addressing as part of our progression.

“We’re fortunate to have a strong fan base at Spennymoor Town, who recognise running a Non-League club at our level requires constant fundraising. We know they’ll show us their usual level of support for this campaign.”
