Appointed at the Moat Ground in October 2010 after supporting the club when it reformed in 2009, the stalwart was the owner of former club sponsors Rink Print in Swadlincote before retiring.
The EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club paid tribute to their late president on Sunday in a statement announcing his passing at the age of 70 and details of his funeral service.
The club said: "Gresley FC are saddened to report the death on January 5 of club president Mike Knight. A local businessman, Mike became the president of Gresley in 2010 and will be hugely missed by all who knew him. Our deepest condolences to his wife Ann and all his family and friends at this sad time.
"A celebration of the life of Mike Knight will be held at Bretby Crematorium on Friday 3 February 2017 at 12.30pm. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu for the Thoracic Surgery Unit, Glenfield Hospital and Gresley FC Defibrillator Fund."
Gresley FC chairman Barry North also passed on the Moatmen's condolences on their message board, writing: "So sorry to hear the sad news about Mike, a dear friend to both Jackie and myself. Our sincere deepest heartfelt sympathy to his dear wife Ann and family."
