New Workington contract a “no-brainer” for Scott Allison

By James Gordon

Scott Allison says his decision to re-sign with Workington for the 2021/22 season was an easy one.

The striker, who is the club’s joint-third-highest goalscorer, joins teammates Jim Atkinson, Dav Symington, Dan Wordsworth, Sam Smith, Brad Carroll and Conor Tinnion to have already agreed to a new contract with the Reds, while management duo Danny Grainger and Steven Rudd have also re-signed ahead next season.

And Allison said he had no doubts when he was offered a new contract.

He said: “It was a really easy decision for myself personally. When I spoke to Danny and he outlined his plans to me it was a no-brainer.

“To be honest I would have signed on as soon as the last season finished. I’m sure everyone else who has already signed on would tell you the same thing.

“We have unfinished business as a group, I think it’s fair to say we’ve been the worst effected by the two past seasons and I think it would be very hard for anyone to move on without finishing what we’ve started.”

Grainger’s side were unbeaten in the 2020/21 Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West Division season before the season was curtailed, with five wins and four draws and sitting third in the table.

The season before also saw the club at the top of the table before the pandemic struck, and Allison says promotion continues to be the goal.

He said: “I think anything less than promotion would have to be considered a failure for us.

“That may add pressure to the season, but it’s true. We know that, like last season, we will be the ‘team to beat’ and everyone will want to beat us and that is testament to the work we have put in as a group over the last two seasons.”
