Final outing will be toughest test

Basford United manager Martin Carruthers reckons his side's final outing of 2017 in the EVO-STIK League could be their toughest with rejuvenated Corby Town next up at Greenwich Avenue.

Carruthers and his runaway EVO-STIK League South leaders host the second-placed Steelmen on Saturday and United's manager is taking nothing for granted after watching Steve Kinniburgh transform their opponents from relegation candidates into promotion contenders since replacing former Notts County and Coventry City star David Bell in September.

United have yet to lose in the league and are a whopping 19 points clear but Carruthers insisted on Friday: "Corby are a very good footballing side with a good mix of youth and experience and we could not have got a harder game to end the year."
