Stalwart remembered before clash

EVO-STIK League Matlock Town have been mourning the loss of club stalwart Alan Alesbrook over Christmas.

The Gladiators held a minute's silence for the lifelong fan and volunteer before hosting Buxton in the EVO-STIK League's top flight on Boxing Day after learning of his passing in hospital last Friday.

A Gladiators spokesman said: “Alan was Matlock Town through and through and was highly thought of at the club. He was one of our kit men and was a member of our ground maintenance team putting in hour after hour doing jobs at the ground.

"He was a lifelong and valued supporter of the club and news of his death came as a big shock to us all. Everyone at the club, officials, management and players will miss him as will fellow supporters and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
