Final trials for NPLFA hopefuls

Belper Town, Kidsgrove Athletic, Leek Town, Matlock Town, Mickleover Sports, Mossley, Ossett Albion, Radcliffe, Sutton Coldfield Town, Warrington Town and Witton Albion are all staging finals trials until the end of August as students already enrolled with the NPLFA turned out for pre-season training this week in the run-up to the new EVO-STIK League season, pictured.

An NPLFA spokesman said: "August is a busy month for all our clubs with pre-season training in full swing and trials taking place to fill the remaining limited places we have at our clubs. If potential candidates haven’t been down before, please register first at nplfa.co.uk/register and we will give you further details via email."

Founded with the backing of the Football Association at five pilot clubs in September 2014 to provide career pathways into the football industry and still the only league wide academy in English football combining sport with education, the NPLFA continues to expand and is expected to cater to more than 400 students in its fourth intake for the new academic year.

Thanks to the new higher education partnership with Loughborough College announced in May, NPLFA students on two year BTEC courses or embarking on them from September can now continue their education to degree level while developing their football careers within the EVO-STIK League.

Mickleover Sports won the NPLFA's youth league for the third season running in May while Warrington Town's stars of the future lifted the inaugural NPLFA Cup at Stole City's Bet365 Stadium.
