Forget Movember, it's Decembeard time!

'Movember' might have raised millions for research into men’s cancers but that isn’t stopping Trafford manager Garry Vaughan and his assistant Wayne Goodison growing fresh beards to support ‘Decembeard’.

Inspired by the worldwide 'Movember' appeal that now sees millions men of sprouting facial hair to fundraise and was backed by a number of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League clubs again last month, 'Decembeard' is the official fundraiser for charity Beating Bowel Cancer.

Goodison, 47, has been at the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North club for six years and was diagnosed with the disease eight years ago before undergoing a successful operation and subsequent treatment. Vaughan has now been with the club for a total of 12 years as player and manager. Goodison says the pair aren't setting a fundraising target and are just hoping to raise as much as possible by forgoing razors until New Year's Day.

Urging Trafford fans to pick up a sponsorship form at Shawe View, he said: "Bowel cancer is one of the biggest killers in the UK but is relatively easy to detect and treat. I am eight years in remission now and it's nice to do something to help, no matter how small."

During 'Movember' fans, players and coaches from across the league took part with the league's official fans group on Facebook helping to coordinate efforts after setting a £20,000 target in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute for Cancer Research.

Grantham Town's former managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro and Chorley playing duo Jamie Vermiglio and Tom Williams avoided razors for a month along with many more coaches, players and fans from clubs led by Coalville Town, Halesowen and Cammell Laird.
