Former Foxes chief stands down as chairman

Barrie Pierpoint has stood down as chairman of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Grantham Town.

Pierpoint, pictured, joined the Premier Division club in January 2013 as chief executive officer and took over as chairman in the summer to spearhead a three year plan to reach the Football Conference.

In a statement announcing his departure on Tuesday morning, officials at the Meres said the pressure of other work commitments were behind the decision of the former Leicester City, Portsmouth and Bradford CEO to resign and also relinquish his role as a director.

The club said: "Chief executive Keith Horton and the other directors of the club would like to thank Mr Pierpoint for his hard work and effort to move the club forward over the last 18 months."

Pierpoint succeeded Pete Railton who stood down as chairman after 18 months at the helm in August. Pierpoint spent ten years at the Foxes, turning it from a loss-making club into profit and successfully floating it on the stock market in 1997.

Horton, who joined the Grantham’s board as commercial director earlier this summer, was appointed as Pierpoint’s successor as CEO.

Grantham say they will be making a full statement concerning Pierpoint's departure in due course.
