Monday's Premier Division action review

EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division

Curzon Ashton missed the opportunity to move back into second place in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division on Monday night when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Blyth Spartans at the Tameside Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Curzon took a 36th minute lead when Niall Cummins got on the end of a Ryan Watson cross to net from close range. The visitors, who won away at Mickleover Sports in the FA Cup on Saturday, again showed battling qualities, finally grabbing an equaliser with 11 minutes of the match remaining when Jon Quinn – on-loan from Newcastle United – came off the bench to score his first goal for the club.

Ilkeston FC were looking to move into the top five if they could beat Halesowen Town at the New Manor Ground.

And they took an 11th minute lead when Kieran Wallace`s free-kick flew straight in. Tyrell Waite almost doubled the Robins` advantage midway through the first half, but his shot hits the post and bounced away to safety.

Seven minutes before the break the Yeltz levelled when a long ball into the area was knocked down for Neil Mackenzie to score. And on 76 minutes Halesowen took the lead when a ball through the middle found the experienced Iyesden Christie, who finished well.

That looked like the winner until injury-time when sub Rob Duffy scored from the penalty spot to earn the hosts an important point.
