EVO-STIK League Rainworth Miners Welfare named former Sutton Town manager Dean Short as their new assistant manager on Thursday.

Short, who left the Snipes nearly three weeks ago, is looking forward to teaming up with Wrens player-manager Scott Rickards when pre-season training starts on July 1 in preparation for the new First Division South campaign.

He said: "It was too good an opportunity to turn down. Just like players, managers want to test themselves at the highest level. I can’t wait to start working with Scott. We both have similar philosophies and want to build a team of players who want to be here and that the fans can be proud of."

Short arrived at Kirklington Road with an impressive CV after writing his name into his former club’s history having enjoyed three years of success led by winning promotion as champions from the Central Midlands League South into the East Midland Counties League.

He also guided the Snipes to the final of the Notts Senior Cup, the final of the East Midland Counties League Cup and the last 32 of the FA Vase during his short tenure.
