Freak Bucks goal sets record

Buxton

Buxton Chairman Tony Tomlinson has revealed that Ian Deakin’s freak goal against Blyth Spartans in their 2-0 win is the first scored by a Bucks keeper since World War Two!

The Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division's club Chairman has been examining their record books. He says that apart from penalty kicks, no Bucks keeper has scored until Deakin’s free kick found the net from 25 yards inside his own half.

It has happened at Silverlands since but unfortunately at the wrong end for Buxton in 1995 when Maltby Main goalkeeper Peter Adnitt scored. Remarkably, both his and Deakin’s goals were scored up the slope!

Martin McIntosh’s fast-improving side go into their fourth FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round clash in ten years against Conference North Guiseley on Saturday in great form as they launch their latest bid to reach the First Round Proper.

On Tuesday the Bucks ran out convincing 5-1 winners at Eastwood Town with a powerful performance that saw five different players find the net. Thirteen members of the squad have now scored this season and the victory was their sixth in their last seven outings, 24 goals coming since the heavy defeat at AFC Fylde in September.

Buxton booked Saturday’s FA Cup tie with a ten man backs to the wall 2-1 replay win over Hednesford in extra-time at Silverlands last Wednesday night.
