Funniest caption wins new Christmas cup!

The NPL Facebook Group are running a Christmas caption competition for their four thousand plus members and there's a trophy up for grabs!

The EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's social media maestros say the fan who comes up with the funniest caption for the accompanying picture of some typically dejected players will be presented with the new Christmas NPL Trophy.

The group passed the 4,000 member milestone in November and according to Bradley Dobson, one of its founders, the rules for the festive bit of fun are straight forward - every supporter gets one go each to submit a caption and the one with the most 'likes' on Facebook at the end of Christmas Day is declared the winner.

If there happens to be more than person with the same amount of likes, Dobson says the winner's name will be pulled out of a hat at random.

Dobson added: "Anybody can give it a go. We're getting loads of entries for a great little bit of festive fun and some of the captions so far have been hilarious!"

Set up back in 2009 by two fans watching an FA Trophy tie between FC Halifax Town and Shepshed Dynamo - ironically both former EVO-STIK NPL teams now - and initially known as the UniBond Group, the NPL Facebook has steadily grown to become one of the best supported online communities in football.

This time last year the group also had nearly 2000 followers on Twitter, a figure that stood at 3482 after Saturday's round of action.

The NPL Facebook Group's success in bringing together fans, players and officials was acknowledged by the league itself in 2012 at the inaugural NPL Players of the Year Awards when members were asked to present the first NPL Facebook Group Fan of the Year Award, now an annual accolade.

Last season, the group was invited to play a key role in the launch of the league's new official monthly podcast, The EVO-STIK NPL Show.

This season they are also contributing to a new Friday spin-off show, The NPL Show Extra, with the group’s James Heyes one of a team of regular pundits.
