FWP backs new award for technical area conduct

By James Gordon

A new Technical Area Conduct Award has been created by the Northern Premier League as part of the Love Football, Protect the Game campaign.

Launched in the summer, the new participant behaviour charter covering Steps 1-4 outlined stronger measures on behaviours and focuses on addressing unacceptable conduct on the pitch, on the sidelines and in the stands.

Supported by the NPL’s long standing and official Ground Development partner Frank Whittle Partnership Ltd, the awards will be measured by league tables for all four divisions across the season.

The tables are compiled using the Referee Match Report Form submitted for each League fixture and the assessment of the bench areas on an Excellent, Good, Satisfactory or Poor rating and taking into account where members of the Technical area receive red or yellow cards.

So as an example, Club X plays four games and is marked Excellent in game 1, Good in game 2, Satisfactory in game 3 and Poor in game 4. This means that the Club earns the following points. 3+2+1+-1=5

However, in game 4 the manager is dismissed and the assistant booked. This means their total of 5 is then subject to a -3 and -1 deduction, as a result their new total is 1 and an average per game of 0.25.

Topping the whole of the NPL after the first quarter of the season (covering August, September and October 2023) are Trafford FC, who recorded a points average of 2.92, narrowly ahead of Hinckley LR (2.91).

The best performing team in the Premier Division is Morpeth Town (2.67), while in the East Division both Newton Aycliffe and Belper Town recorded an average of 2.58.

The full tables and scores have been shared with all clubs and a further update will follow in the New Year incorporating November, December and January.

There will be prizes awarded at the end of the season awards dinner for each Divisional winner and runner-up. Winners will receive £1,000 and runners-up £500.
