Goal hero targets second promotion

Ossett Town's two goal hero Jason Yates is looking forward to their fanatical fans seeing them pull off another upset in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's promotion play-offs on Saturday.

The former Frickley Athletic and Shaw Lane midfielder, pictured, bagged a brace in Tuesday night's 3-1 semi-final win at Scarborough Athletic to book a trip to Farsley Celtic, 4-0 winners over Colne.

Yates hailed the club's fans on Thursday while Reds striker Danny Frost insisted all the pressure would be on the EVO-STIK NPL First Division North runners-up in the play-off final at Throstle Nest.

“The lads are flying, team spirit is unreal and no one expected us to be in the play-offs, let alone the final," declared Frost who re-signed for the club from Shaw Lane AFC at the start of the season. "We will go there and give it everything!”

Yates, who joined manager Grant Black's squad at Ingfield in October after skippering Hemsworth Miners Welfare to the NCEL First Division title last term, is dreaming of back-to-back promotions after beating the Seadogs in their last fixture at Bridlington's Queensgate before the beaten semi-finalists finally return home this summer.

Hailing Town's fans, known as 'The Backslappers', for following them in ever increasing numbers during the run-on, he said: “The Backslappers support is just amazing and seems to be getting better every game. The lads and I are truly grateful and we just hope we can give them something back at the end of one more 90 minutes."

He added: "The game against Farsley is going to be a belter, yes we’ve beaten them but this is a final and what has gone before will have no bearing on this game. As long as we perform as I know we can I am confident of a good result."

Proud Ossett Town chairman James Rogers is well aware that his management team of Black and Steve Ridley know their side are facing a team hailed by many as the best in the division despite their second-placed finish to champions Lancaster City.

Rogers said: "As we travel to Farsley Celtic this Saturday we need to approach it just like we did Tuesday night’s game. Focus on what we do best and plan to go to Farsley and cause another upset."
