Money raised from Frickley Athletic’s 2013 Golf Day has helped push their Redevelopment Fund over the £28,000 mark.

As of Friday, the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Blues say the running total stands at £28,012, leaving the club just under £22,000 left to reach the £50,000 target they set themselves last summer to transform Westfield Lane with a new community pavilion and changing room complex.

Last Wednesday's Golf Day raised £400 and was won by a winning team, pictured, of Sam Allan, Allan Howcroft, Nigel Smith and Ian Cooper. Allan also won the Best Individual Golfer prize, Alan Amies won the prize for the Straightest Drive while Cooper took the honours for the Nearest The Pin prize.

When built, Frickley's new development will house four changing rooms, officials changing rooms, additional male, female and disabled toilets and a community function room with its own catering facilities.

The complex will be shared with South Elmsall United Juniors and South Elmsall United Services and will be open to community groups in the area for a range of activities and educational programmes, many aimed at encouraging people to enjoy the nearby country park as well as building up the club's fan base.

Recent efforts by fundraisers, who set up a dedicated website to publicise and support the fund, include ongoing bucket collections by fan Chad Thomas since he started his mission among touring England fans and sponsorship money raised by former Chairman Pete Bywater who turned teetotal, temporarily!

In a statement on their website, the Blues said: "Thanks go to everyone who took part in the event and also to Cliff and Maurice Lacey for their organisation on the day as well as former player, Neil Lacey, who also pitched in at the last minute to give invaluable help on the day."
