Striking legend takes Castle post

By David Watters

Newcastle Town

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Newcastle Town have appointed Dave Sutton as their new Director of Football.

Sutton, pictured, played for Stoke and still enjoys legendary status at First Division South rivals Leek Town where he scored 151 goals in the late 80s and early 90s. He was officially installed in his new post at the Lyme Valley Stadium on Sunday.

Sutton, currently involved at Newcastle under Lyme College running the student’s sports education programmes, will primarily oversee the development of the club's reserve and Midland Floodlit League squads to maximise potential. He'll also take responsibility for the development of the club's younger players and ensure they are monitored on a regular basis in order to prepare for possible first team football.

Castle Chairman Alistair Miller said: "David's localised experience will be of great value in this role. Having coached the Newcastle first team following a successful spell as reserve team coach he well knows the importance of bringing youngsters through the ranks with regular team appearances."
