Goodison named as new assistant manager

Wayne Goodison is back in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League as Danny Johnson's number two at Nantwich Town.

Goodison left Premier Division rivals Trafford earlier this month after four years as assistant manager to Garry Vaughan. Ironically, he will take to the touchline at the Weaver Stadium on Saturday for the first time against his old club.

The 50-year-old, pictured alongside Vaughan before the pair left Shawe View, made more than 200 appearances at right-back for Barnsley, Crewe Alexandra and Rochdale before playing in Non-League at Hyde United.

Since retiring as a player, Goodison has worked as a number two at Chorley, Rossendale and Salford as well as Trafford. At the Ammies, he had a six-match spell as caretaker manager in October 2008.

Dabbers manager Johnson welcomed Goodison to the Weaver Stadium in a statement on the club's website announcing his arrival on Friday.

He said: "I am delighted to announce that Wayne Goodison has agreed to join the club as assistant manager. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Wayne all the very best in his new role.

"Wayne along with Nige Deeley will bring a huge amount of experience as well as helping me develop as a football manager. Wayne has spent the last four years at tomorrow's opponents Trafford FC and has great experience of Non-League football.

He added: "Things have happened really quickly, my patience has paid dividends and I firmly believe that we are very lucky to have Nigel Deeley and Wayne Goodison as part of our club."
