Grobbelaar tickets expected to sell out fast

Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar is returning to the city in the run-up to Christmas to entertain fans of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Marine who are expecting a sell-out crowd.

Now 57 and living in Canada, Grobbelaar, pictured, will be the star guest at the Marine Travel Arena on Friday 11 December after the Mariners teamed up with their groundshare tenants at AFC Liverpool to host a joint fundraising night in the College Suite.

Grobbelaar will be joined on stage by comedian John Martin and organisers are confident those attending the event won't be disappointed after the two clubs joined forces again to book the stopper who won almost as much fame for his personality and antics off the pitch as on it.

Signed by Liverpool in 1981 from Vancouver Whitecaps after a loan spell at Crewe, he went on to make 628 appearances for the Reds over the next trophy laden 13 years, in the process winning the league six times, the FA Cup and League Cup three times apiece and most famously, the European Cup in 1984 after a penalty shoot-out victory over Roma.

Tickets priced at £25 for the 'hot pot' evening went on sale on Monday and Marine chairman Paul Leary said: “This is really great news that Bruce Grobbelaar has agreed to be our main guest at this important Christmas fundraiser for both clubs.

"I look forward to a really entertaining evening with Bruce and comedian John Martin and I have no doubts that the evening will be a sell-out as it is an ideal event in the build up to Christmas to celebrate with friends and work colleagues.

"I am delighted that our friends from AFC Liverpool have also agreed to host the evening with us in what will be a superb night.”

AFC Liverpool chairman Chris Stirrup said: “As Paul has said, this promises to be another superb night and can I only say that if you’ve not attended one of these nights before, then make sure you don’t miss this one as I am sure it will be a sell-out."

He added: "Being close to Christmas, this night would be a great way to get together with friends, family and colleagues and support both clubs in the process."
