Haddrell wants to move on

Leek Town

Leek Town striker Matt Haddrell has handed in a transfer request after losing his place in Lee Casswell's starting line-up, writes Michael Cope.

Haddrell, pictured, hasn't started the last four games for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Blues. He faces even stiffer competition for a regular berth following the signing of Kidsgrove Athletic's leading scorer Andy Kinsey who scored within seven minutes of making his debut in the 1-1 at Market Drayton Town last week.

With Tim Grice also due to return following his three match suspension, the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South side agreed to Haddrell's request to leave Harrison Park over the weekend and are circulating his availability.

The 31-year-old began his career at Vauxhall Motors in January 2001 before being snapped up by Macclesfield Town who splashed out £35,000 for him in March 2003. While with the Silkmen, Haddrell was a powerful defender and joined Leek for the first time in the summer of 2004.

The big striker returned to Harrison Park in July 2011 after spells at Congleton and Kidsgrove where he was converted into a fontman and top scored for Blues last season with 27 strikes.

This season Haddrell has made 35 appearances, netting eight times. In total he's made 149 appearances and scored 44 goals in a Blues shirt.

Haddrell has now amassed 150 career goals and was voted Blues' Supporters Player of the Year last season. He was also named in the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South Team of the Year at last year's inaugural Northern Premier League Players Awards.

Voting by managers and coaches is underway for this season's event which returns to the banqueting suite at Barnsley's Holiday Inn to celebrate the Evo-Stik NPL's stars on Sunday 7 April.
