Hammering ends manager's solo stint

Brigg Town

EVO-STIK League Brigg Town have started the hunt to appoint a new manager after announcing that Scott Hellewell had stood down at lunchtime on Sunday.

Hellewell’s assistant Gary Paton has been asked to take temporary charge with the assistance of senior players after the Zebras manager departed in the wake of their 10-0 hammering in First Division South at Gresley Rovers on Saturday.

Hellewell, pictured, had been left in sole charge at the Hawthorns since midweek when joint manager Scott Barlow left the Lincolnshire outfit following their 2-1 defeat at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare on Tuesday night.

Hellewell originally took the helm last December as part of a management trio alongside Michael Jacklin and Paul Grimes and was warmly thanked for his efforts in a statement released by officials as chairman Simon Harris launched the hunt to find his successor.

The club said: "The club wish to place on record their thanks for Scott's incredible hard work in the last year culminating in an appearance in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy final.”

Zebras officials are now inviting applications for the post and say candidates should contact the chairman via email at: simonharris59@gmail.com. Postal applications should be sent to the Hawthorns with all treated in the strictest confidence.
