Heald confirmed as Sheridan's successor

Salford City handed Andy Heald their manager's job on a permanent basis on Tuesday.

Heald, 32, was appointed as caretaker manager in mid January by the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Ammies following the departure of Darren Sheridan who resigned after a review of his playing budget.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division North outfit say midfielder-turned-defender Heald, pictured, will be assisted by Chris Thompson at Moor Lane. Heald joined the club last summer and worked under Sheridan as a player coach before being asked to hold the fort following his surprise exit.

Heald has plenty of experience to call upon having made the transition from accomplished midfielder to defender following a playing career that saw him start out under Jim Harvey at Morecambe.

After three seasons with the Shrimps, he moved on to play under Gary Flitcroft at Leigh RMI and Leigh Genesis before switiching to Stalybridge Celtic. Several successful years were then spent at near-neighbours Radcliffe Borough before he moved on to Curzon Ashton and Warrington Town.
