Hill wows guests at Christmas party

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Carlton Town are already taking bookings for their next Christmas lunch after former Nottingham Forest keeper Alan Hill left guests spellbound at this year's festive get together.

Hill was hailed as one of the best speakers the club has ever booked after following in the footsteps of some of the game's best known names including Jack Charlton, Sir Geoff Hurst, Paul Merson, Jan Molby, Graham Taylor and Howard Webb two years ago.

Now 72, Forest's former stopper under the late Brian Clough, chief scout and head of youth development refused to take a fee for appearing at the First Division South club's 15th annual event, instead asking for a donation to his family's chosen charity, The Rainbow Hospice.

Last week's lunch was sponsored by local brewery and pub chain Castle Rock and the Millers are urging their fans to make a point of supporting the sponsors over the holidays and the second half of the season to thank them for their support.

Carlton Town's commercial manager Brian Dennett said: “We are a non-profit making club and rely totally on fundraising sponsorship and donations and the help local companies give us is vital to our future. I would like to place on record my thanks for the tremendous help we got from Castle Rock, they really do us proud!”

Chairman Mick Garton added: “I know a number of our committee and supporters frequent The Willowbrook and indeed we made a point of going there for a superb breakfast before the recent FA Trophy trip.”

“Their new pub, The Embankment, on Trent Bridge which they recently took over has been refurbished and totally reformed into one of Nottingham's top eating and drinking destinations. You really do have to visit it to appreciate what they have done with it and it is impressive indeed.”
