Homecoming will be one big party

By David Watters

EVO-STIK League Cleethorpes Town are getting ready to celebrate the official opening of their revamped home with fans this weekend.

Local MPs Martin Vickers and Melanie Onn will be on hand to cut the ribbons at the opening ceremony of the EVO-STIK League East club's New Linden ground on Saturday before a big party for everyone connected with the Owls.

Town are hosting a family fun day from 12.30pm onwards featuring a BBQ, bouncy castle and live World Cup football on a big screen to mark the return to their revamped home, part-funded with the £50,000 they collected in May 2017 as one of the winners of the Buildbase Club Renovation Programme competition.

As well as ground tours and a merchandise stall, selling season ticket and offering details on membership of the Clee Ultras, the Owls say they are also looking forward to discussing sponsorship opportunities with local groups and businesses ahead of a visit from Grimsby Town for the first match at New Linden on Saturday 7 July.

The Lincolnshire club's vice-chairman David Mann is looking forward to a big crowd turning out at the free event to celebrate their return to the town after playing in exile at The Bradley Football Development Centre in Grimsby.

Mann said: “I have to pinch myself sometimes to see how far we have come in such a short space of time! It has been accomplished by the hard-work of numerous volunteers, who have pulled together to make the dream of returning to Linden a reality.

"Special thanks to the hardy band that has really completed some back-breaking work in the last few weeks. Everyone can take pride at the achievement - it will be a tremendous asset for the club and wider local community."

He added: "Finally, we approach this new era with confidence and I am sure our senior, ladies and junior sections will all go from strength to strength.”
