King's Lynn Town

Hot-shot Shane Tolley has left Evo-Stik Northern Premier League King's Lynn Town to play in the Ryman League for the first time.

The Linnets announced on Friday that the striker, pictured, had completed his switch to Ryman Premier Bury Town to join up with Richard Wilkins' squad at Ram Meadow.

The 28-year-old, who started out at Peterborough and went on to play for FK Riga, Bohemians, Truro, Barnstaple, St Neots, Spalding and Histon before joining the Linnets last season, made 33 appearances for Lynn and scored 11 goals.

Linnets manager Gary Setchell told www.edp24.co.uk on Friday that he was disappointed to lose the striker who had initially rejected a seven-day approach from the Ryman club two weeks ago.

Tolley told Setchell he'd changed his mind after scoring in Wednesday night's 4-1 win at Worksop and the Linnets manager said: "He spoke to me after the game at Worksop and said he feels the northern section of Step Three football doesn't suit his game. He feels where he is going will suit his game as it is less physical.

"I am disappointed if I am honest – he has not been a fringe player, he has played in all bar one game, has been doing reasonably well and scored his first goal of the season last night. But I wish him all the best. He is a great lad and you can’t stop players leaving – it is his decision."
