Hunt starts to replace outgoing chairman

Grantham Town are on the look-out for a new chairman after announcing on Monday that Pete Railton had stood down at the EVO-STIK League club.

Railton, pictured, has been at the helm at the Meres for the last 18 months helping to consolidate the club’s position in the league’s top flight. He will continue as a club director after stepping back to concentrate on his business interests.

In a statement released by the Gingerbreads on Monday morning, officials said they would be appointing an interim chairman and were now inviting potential successors to Railton to contact them with their investment plans before the end of the month.

Railton, who originally joined the Premier Division club’s board in 2011, is backing whoever comes in to have the full support he enjoyed at the Lincolnshire club.

He said: "I have enjoyed the challenge and I am extremely proud of what the board of directors at the club have achieved over the last 18 months. I know that whoever takes the role on will have everybody’s full support in taking the football club to the next level.

"It is with sadness and after a lot of thought and consideration that I have taken this decision. The role requires 100 per cent commitment and due to my current workload, I am unable to give the job everything it needs."

Interested parties should contact club officials by August 23 at the South Kesteven Stadium, Trent Road, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG31 7XQ.
