Iconic truce remembered at carol service

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Halesowen Town hosted a carol service on Sunday to remember World War One's Christmas Day Truce of 1914 when the guns famously fell silent.

Nearly six hundred people attended a 'Silent Night' service at The Grove to remember the truce during the first Christmas of the conflict.

Yeltz supporters were also treated to a re-enactment of the football matches played between the soldiers of both sides by a number of current and former members of the armed forces attired in 1914-18 uniforms, pictured.

At the start of December, the EVO-STIK NPL's clubs helped commemorate the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the First World War.

As part of a week of remembrance activity that took place throughout the game for 'Football Remembers Week' from 5-14 December, all 68 clubs played a part in creating a unique photographic record of football one hundred years later by having mixed squad photos taken before kick-off on Saturday 6 December.

The images were later posted on new commemorative website www.footballremembers.com.
