Injury nightmare nearly over

Leek Town

Leek Town striker Tim Grice could be back in Evo-Stik Northern Premier League action within three weeks, writes Michael Cope.

The hot-shot has yet to start a match for the Blues after damaging an ankle ligament just two hours into a week long trial at Crew Alexandra in pre-season. The club's leading scorer is said to be recovering well following treatment by the League One club's medical team.

Despite being behind league leaders Romulus on goal difference alone after winning 5-1 at Lincoln United on Saturday, Blues manager Lee Casswell is warning his squad and fans to keep their feet on the ground.

After losing at Walsall Wood in the FA Cup in midweek, the Blues manager hailed his side's performance. He said: "Following the disappointment of Tuesday's defeat at Walsall Wood it was up to us to put in a good performance to show the Directors and the fans that we are better than that. I know you can only beat what’s in front of you but every player turned up and they were spot on to claim a decisive victory.

"I'm delighted to be up at the top of the league table but we'll be keeping our feet on the ground because there is a lot of football to be played over the next few months and we'll be going out to win games and put points on the board."

Casswell also singled out new signing Mitch Husbands for special praise after the weekend's win. The 19-year-old striker joined on a month's loan from Worksop Town last week along with former Nantwich Town midfielder Neil Maguire, 24.

Casswell added: "Mitch Husbands did a good job up front for us as we try to give Andy Kinsey and Tim Grice more time to overcome injuries. The lad got on the score-sheet and worked the line well, bringing players into the game while at the back Ryan Dicker had the defence well organised."
