Ilkeston manager Kevin Wilson is looking forward to a thaw in the weather to see if Bermuda international Antwan Russell can take his chance to make an impact at the New Manor Ground.

The Robins signed the 26-year-old on the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's transfer deadline day to boost their strike force over the final weeks of the season. They are now are awaiting international clearance for the forward who could make his debut in next Thursday's home game against Buxton.

Wilson admits he's yet so see Russell in action but said: "He comes highly recommended by trusted sources and we want to give him a chance to show what he can do. He is really keen to try his luck over here and although it's bound to be very different to what he is used to - especially if this cold weather carries on - we have nothing to lose from it.

"I'm led to believe that Antwan is a quick lad with a keen eye for a goal and although we are reasonably well off for strikers at the moment, you can never have enough players like that."

After starting his career with Dandy Town Hornets in the Bermudian Premier Division, Russell has spent the past two years with Bermuda Hogges in the Second Division of the USL. He's also spent time in Canada on trial with Toronto and has notched three goals in four international appearances.

Based on his own experiences, Wilson believes he could be a great success in the Evo-Stik NPL's Premier Division.

Wilson added: "Bermudian strikers have a history of doing well in this country. I played with Shaun Goater at Notts County and when I was player-coach at Walsall, Kyle Lighbourne and I scored the best part of 150 goals between us in three seasons. It's a tough ask to think Antwan come make that sort of impact but it's up to him."
