Is Hickey next in line for big time?

By David Watters

Barwell's Brady Hickey has jumped to the front of the queue of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League stars hoping to make it to the big time.

The 19-year-old midfielder is due to travel with the Canaries to Buxton on Saturday having finished a week's training with the first team at Premier League Leicester City on Friday.

The England schoolboy only joined Barwell in May from St Andrews having made his name at the Leicestershire club, his feats including scoring for the East Midlands Counties League outfit in an FA Vase semi-final at West Auckland in 2014.

Spalding United's talented teenage striker Jonny Lockie learned this week that he's earned a trial with the Foxes before Christmas and Canaries manager Jimmy Ginnelly has no doubt that Hickey can show him the way.

Hickey's goals tally is already in double figures and Ginnelly told the club's website: "Brady is a naturally gifted footballer and an outstanding lad and he is one I am sure will make it to the big-time. He is good enough technically to make a difference and he has got the right attitude to go along with that."

Tulips star Lockie has been banging in the goals for the U18s and reserve sides this season at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

After recently making his first team debut for the First Division South club, the 16-year-old former Crowland Town, Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United hot-shot is now dreaming of joining Non-League's top current graduate at the King Power Stadium, former Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax FC and Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy.

Having scored 12 goals in his first 12 games of the season, including 11 in his last nine consecutive games, the 28-year-old England striker could equal Ruud van Nistelrooy's Premier League record of scoring in ten consecutive matches against Newcastle United this weekend if he recovers from an injury that kept him out of England's 2-0 win over France this week.
