Johnson set for Clarets trial

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell

ROMULUS star Marvin Johnson looks set for a five day trial at Championship club Burnley next week as interest in the young sharp-shooter hots up.

League Two side Crewe Alexandra are the latest club to show an interest in the 20-year old hitman, but the ex-Solihull Moors striker is expected to train at Turf Moor next week, subject to clearance from Roms boss and chairman Richard Evans.

Speaking on Wednesday night, Johnson said: “It would a fantastic opportunity for me and it looks like I’ll be going up there – I’m really grateful for the opportunity.

“I’ve not spoke to Burnley myself because I’m under contract, so that has to happen through Evo [Roms boss Richard Evans] and Gino [Culbertson, Johnson’s agent] – but I think it’s all okay.”

The club has yet to confirm whether the trial will take place.

Meanwhile, the Roms secured a third straight 1-1 draw at Coles Lane last weekend, taking a point from their clash with promotion chasing Sheffield.

After the game, Evans said: “It was even all the way through and for the neutral it was a good standard of football.

“For the goal, big Nathan [Blissett] has won the header and Chris Morris has fed off it – we work on these things in training so it’s good to see it come off.”

The Roms had to see the last 20 minutes out with skipper Phil Male in goal after Lewis Exall went down with a head injury following an accidental collision.

Evans added: “Lewis is okay, obviously it’s concerning when a player goes down with an injury like that but we got him checked out quickly and we expect him to be back on Saturday.”

Romulus travel to Leek Town on Saturday (KO 3pm) and Exall should return for the clash in Staffordshire, but full back Richard Evans Jnr is still out, while Ben Richards-Everton and Gavin Day both serve one match suspensions.
