Lairds skipper hit for six

Cammell Lairds skipper John Riley could be out for six weeks after limping off in the final ten minutes of Saturday's 1-1 FA Trophy draw at Kirklands with Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Kendal.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North Lairds must travel to Kendal on Tuesday night when the sides replay without Riley, pictured, who turned and fell with nobody near him.

It's feared the Lairds captain's name will be added to manager Tony Sullivan's long term injury list along with keeper John Courtney who is set to undergo an operation on Tuesday to repair damage to his fingers, a procedure likely to rule him out for several weeks.

Sullivan is set to play Kevin Atherton, his other newly signed keeper and on Monday admitted his recent arrival couldn't have proved more timely. "Kevin contacted the club via email and I invited him down for training were he did enough for me to feel that he would be a useful player to have as back up to John [Courtney] who had signed a few days earlier," said Sullivan. "Sadly for John he was injured in training having played only a couple of matches for the Blues."
