League leaders get to celebrate cup run, again!

Officials at Croft Park announced on Monday that the world's oldest silverware was heading to Northumberland as Tom Wade’s league leaders finalise their preparations for their First Qualifying Round tie at First Division North Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

The Football Association chose Spartans to show off the cup before the weekend's ties after the memorable run that saw the Premier Division club win 2-1 away at Hartlepool United before being knocked out by Birmingham City after an epic tie 3-2 defeat at Croft Park back in January.

Despite the attention expected from the media at a press call, Spartans are opening the training session to the public and inviting fans along to the event.

A club spokesman said: "There will be press commitments for the trophy and Spartans players and coaching staff to take care of but there may be any opportunity for supporters to get their photos taken with the famous old trophy.

"Training will be an open session with the gates opening at 6.30pm and the clubhouse open at the same time."
