The press officer behind the new website dedicated to Non-League football in the North East is hoping the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League fans can help him win a top accolade at the Football Blogging Awards on the final day of voting.

Blyth Spartans media man Mark Carruthers launched www.fortheloveoffootballblog.com this summer and the independent website is in the running to reach the finals of the ‘New Blog’ category at the prestigious awards at Manchester's National Football Museum in November.

Set up to give supporters in the North East a chance to have their say throughout the campaign, fans from up to 18 clubs have been producing regular blogs with a unique take on the fortunes of their teams since the season kicked off.

The Conference Premier’s Gateshead and Northern League outfits West Auckland Town, Shildon, Celtic Nation, Whitley Bay, Esh Winning, Heaton Stannington and Alnwick Town are among the clubs who’ve been under the spotlight on the site which also publishes a regular groundhoppers' guide, the work of sports photographers from across the region and video highlights of games including action involving Spartans and First Division North Darlington.

Carruthers, senior press officer at the Premier Division’s Croft Park, said: "The website has only been up and running for just over three months but the ‘hit’ rate and response from supporters and clubs around the North East has been overwhelming.

"This award would be recognition for the outstanding work done by our writers and their commitment and quality has been second to none. Hopefully we can get even more support and more votes to at least be in the running for the award on the final day and any help from supporters would be fantastic."

He added: "Even to get this far has been amazing and hopefully, in the words of Alan Pardew, this might get us "over the line" and nominated in the top six!”

To vote on Twitter tweet: "I'm voting in @TheFBAs for @FTLOFBlog as the best #new football blog". Alternatively, go to the FBA’s Facebook where there is a link to a voting form at www.facebook.com/FootballBloggingAwards or visit their website at: www.footballbloggingawards.co.uk/vote-now/.
