League on alert for snow and ice

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK League's clubs and fans are on weather alert again this weekend, this time for snow and freezing conditions overnight as the remnants of Storm Caroline brush the UK.

With snow falling and freezing weather hitting many parts of the Midlands and North West and a number of clubs already planning ahead for early morning pitch inspections on Friday, fans, players and officials should check for the latest news and officially confirmed updates on the fixture pages of the Northern Premier League's official website and social media channels.

The EVO-STIK League was braced for the competition's first serious cold snap of the winter last weekend with officials advising clubs to report the results of pitch inspections as quickly as possible to minimise any possible disruption.

In the end, only one match was hit by the weather and league officials are hoping the vast majority of another full programme of action will be passed fit again after the Met Office issue yellow weather warnings for the regions on Friday, their lowest level. Forecasters expect the weather to be worse on Sunday as temperatures dropped to as low as -5C across large parts of the UK on Friday night.
