League remembers the Fallen

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League

Remembrance Sunday was marked by clubs and supporters across the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League on Saturday.

Many clubs carried Poppies on their programme covers and made collections for the British Legion's appeal which this year celebrates 90 years of fundraising for wounded soldiers and their families.

While two minute silences were held at 11am on Sunday across the country to remember members of the British and Commonwealth's armed forces who have died during conflicts, the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's clubs and supporters showed their support during Saturday's action by inviting members of the armed forces to fixtures along with their local cadet forces.

Clubs led by Kendal and Stamford held Poppy collections at their grounds. Others like Warrington Town suspended their regular supporters raffles and instead asked fans to make a donation to the British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

Stafford Rangers, who now host the monthly meetings of the Staffordshire Regiment at Marston Road, also held collections. A number of other clubs like Witton Albion who were away this weekend held events in advance last Saturday during their final home fixtures before Remembrance Sunday.
