League trio light up Wembley!

The arch is being lit up in the colours of every team to have played at the famous arena since its reopening in 2007 with the trio included in the tenth anniversary celebrations after appearing in the finals of the FA Vase at the newly rebuilt home of English football in 2011, 2013 and 2015 respectively.

Three former EVO-STIK NPL clubs - Darlington, North Ferriby United and FC Halifax Town - were also included in the tribute for playing in the FA Trophy finals of 2011, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

In total, 166 domestic, European and international men’s and women’s football teams have graced the Wembley turf in the last decade in a variety of competitions and friendlies since the famous ‘twin towers’ of the old stadium were replaced.

Like the stunning display for EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division play-off final winners Spennymoor Town, main picture, the name and crests of clubs were also displayed on the outside of the stadium to mark the May 19 milestone alongside many of the most famous names in the game from Brazil and Barcelona to Manchester United, Bayern Munich and England.

Built at a cost of nearly £800 million, the 90,000 capacity stadium was officially opened on Saturday 19 May 2007 when Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup Final.

An FA spokesman said: “Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, celebrated its 10th year anniversary on Friday, May 19, by lighting up its iconic arch in the colours of every team who has played at the famous arena since its reopening.

“To mark anniversary, and in a show of gratitude to all the clubs, Wembley Stadium displayed each of the club or national colours on the famous arch. The name and crests of the clubs were also shown on the outside of the stadium.”
